Encouraging People To Subscribe To Your RSS Feed

RSS feeds became increasingly popular during the last few years. According to many webmasters, the number of RSS feed subscribers measures the success of one’s blog. The same is true with the number of new and returning visitors. If they return, it means that there is something on your blog that makes it interesting. You can influence people’s behavior by indicating to them that there will be something valuable on your blog when they come back again. One example that comes to my mind is organizing contests. You organize a contest, spread the word, talk about your great prizes, and then on your blog you announce that the winners will be revealed in a few days. Of course, you do not have to know exactly, as all depends on the number of participants. The contestants will not want to miss your post in which you will announce the winners, so what do they do? Many of them might subscribe to your RSS Feed. There are a lot of possible contests you may wish to organize:

  • Visitors reviewing your website for a chance to win cash. This is a good way to gain exposure.
  • A group writing project, which will force your visitors to co-operate with each other.
  • A contest for writing a ‘How-To’ type of article. Maybe even you will benefit from some of such articles.
  • Participating in contests might be both beneficial and fun. While not all of your visitors will have time to participate in all of them, I think it is a good idea to organize a few. Of course, there are many other ways to encourage people to subscribe to your RSS feed. Just make sure that you have a high-quality blog.
