A lot has been said recently in the blogosphere about building dialogue. However, the question is what does this really mean? The most important part of building dialogue is encouraging visitors to comment. You want your visitors to comment on a regular basis, because the more they get involved in your blog, the better it is for you. Generally speaking, you want to have a conversational style of writing. Of course, if you do not have a lot of traffic yet, do not be alarmed if visitors do not leave many comments. On the other hand, try promoting your blog a lot more. Basically, if you have many visitors you want them to have a habit of commenting. There are at least a few reasons for this:

• Some argue that blogs differ from regular websites, because it is a lot easier to build a community around a blog. Many believe that not taking advantage out of this opportunity is a mistake.
• Encouraging visitors to comment will result in having more traffic coming to your site. Your website will feel more friendly, which will further boost the number of your visitors. I try to make this blog friendly, and I hope that my readers appreciate that.

According to “Small Publishers, Artists & Writers Network” for your book to be successful it needs to contain at least a few elements. Here is a list of them:

• A timely or timeless subject that is interesting. I think that most bloggers have a subject of their blog, which is interesting, at least to a specific audience.
• A descriptive and attention-getting title. In case of blogs I would apply this to the title of posts. Titles of posts are extremely important.
• Well-written and edited, and easy to read. Most bloggers strive to have well-written and edited posts, but probably many of us do not double check spelling errors. Sometimes we make other mistakes. There is always room for improvement in this area.
• Written by a professional, expert, or good researcher. Not of all us are experts; however, bloggers are very good at learning new things.
• Attractive and professional presentation. Do you use images in your posts? Images can add a lot when it comes to presentation.
• Well promoted and marketed. The last element deals with marketing and maybe this is even the most important one.

Releasing your blog as a book, would be a great way to market your blog.

Every blogger who has been blogging for some time has probably committed some mistakes. However, it is a lot easier to avoid mistakes if you know what things you should try to avoid. Here are some common blogging mistakes that many bloggers make:

Giving up to early is probably the number one mistake. Blogs take time to take off and a blogger should not expect to see results too early. Do not give up too early only because you think your blog is not successful. I order for your blog to become popular you will have to be patient and allow at least a few months to pass. You might regret it later if you decide to give up too early.

Writing about a topic you have no interest in. You should be passionate about the topic you choose to blog about. Before setting up your blog you should spend a lot of time analyzing which topic would be the best for you to focus on. Sometimes you may decide to set up a blog about two separate topics. Nonetheless, it is important that whatever you write about, you should have interest in.

Some bloggers believe that not blogging on your own domain is a mistake, because otherwise you do not have complete control over your own blog. If you intend blogging for a long time, then it is easier to set up your blog on your own domain straight from the beginning. Otherwise, it might be difficult for you to move your blog.

Irregular posting can be another mistake. You do not have to post on the same days each week, but try to post on a regular basis. You need to make your visitors know what you are serious about blogging and that whenever they will visit your blog there will be a big chance that something new will be posted. You will have a lot more visitors coming to your blog if they will know that there is a lot of valuable content on it.

We often browse websites on the Internet. Websites that have many typos are considered by us to be unprofessional. They simply look less professional and they may imply that a person responsible for the site is not paying attention or does not even care. That creates a bad first impression and it should be avoided at all cost. That is why I was shocked to learn that some websites use typos on purpose, as a part of their strategy. A misquotation of a famous quote can also work in this case. Imagine how much attention a famous blogger would attract if he had some misquotations on his site. Your objective is to make such an absurd typo that people will be likely to comment on your blog in order to correct your mistake. Often, you can try to make a typo so that some funny word will be created. Anyway, be creative and think how to implement this idea on your site. It might be fun. However, I would not do it too often as most visitors might not understand that you did a typo on purpose. It also remains to be seen whether such tactics are actually beneficial to a blog and to the reputation of a blogger.

Many people ask whether it is possible for a person with a day job to be fully committed to blogging. Are you wondering whether it is easy to schedule time to blog on a regular basis? It is true that people have many commitments such as work and family. However, it is possible to blog on a regular basis even if you feel that you lack time. There are a few things you should take into account:

Make sure to set boundaries. Do not work on your blog the whole day, but rather try to write articles at the same hour each day. This way you are not going to neglect other responsibilities.

Whenever you have time for blogging, make sure that you write a few posts. You can schedule them to be automatically posted over the next few days. It might be a good idea to write even a few posts on a day when you have more time.

You should gradually increase time invested into blogging. This way blogging will not encroach upon other aspects of your life. Set boundaries and stick to them.

Even if you have a day job it is still possible for you to be committed to blogging. You do not give up, because having a blog is a very enjoyable experience.

Sometimes we need to go on a holiday or for some other reason we do not have access to the Internet. Nonetheless, it does not mean that you have to neglect your blog:

-If you are about to go on vacation, then make sure that you write a few posts in advance. You can ask somebody that you can trust to post them in your name while you are gone. There is nothing wrong with that. John Chow does that, so does Darren Rowse, and other famous bloggers.
-If you are busy with other aspects of your life such as hobbies or studies, then I also suggest not to leave your blog without any updates for a week or more. I encourage you to write your posts in advance. There might be some time during the week when you will have some time to spare, and if you are a serious blogger, you should use this chance. Compose two, four, or even ten posts in advance and publish them regularly throughout the week. It will give you a lot of satisfaction and relieve some stress associated with making sure your blog is regularly updated. It is better to do some things earlier than later, and this is especially true when it comes to blogging.

If you have any other ideas how to maintain regularity in publishing a post, feel free to leave a comment. Useful feedback is always appreciated.

Being a blogger means that you learn new things all the time. You learn how to be a better blogger and you learn how to be a better writer. Most bloggers enjoy receiving some feedback from their readers once in a while. Receiving feedback can be very gratifying. Each one of us enjoys getting some positive feedback, such as ‘Good job’ or ‘Great article.’ Since getting feedback is so important, I suggest that you do everything to receive it. If you are a blogger, enable comments on your blog to see what your readers have to say about your posts. If you are a freelance writer, ask your editor or editors what they think about your articles. Whatever you do, remember to be disciplined. Discipline is the key to success. Since blogging and writing is a commitment, you need to be disciplined and post on a regular basis. It is very easy to get out of the rhythm of blogging. It is important to remember about that, as even a short vacation break can be a problem. Another thing that can help you become a better writer is writing faster. When you write a post, you might not have time for slow writing or thinking. My suggestion is that you write whatever comes to your mind. Try to publish a post even if something else is on your schedule. If you decide to write your posts fast, you will be amazed to discover how your writing is going to speed up.

Choosing a topic of your blog is one of the most important decisions you are going to make. Sometimes it is hard to decide which topic to choose, so here are a few points of advice that may help you choose a topic for your blog:

• Think of something that really interests you. Unlike many jobs, blogging is all about what you choose to write about, not what somebody wants you to write about. If you like the topics you write about, blogging will be a lot more like having fun than working. It may also be the other way around if you do not like the topics you are writing about.
• Do not force yourself to write about topics that might bring you more money but are of no particular interest to you. It might be easy to monetize a site about FOREX; however, if you are not interested in FOREX, do not blog about it. There are many ways to monetize your blog no matter what niche you are in, so do not worry about it.
• It is a good idea to create a general blog, and then regularly add new categories. Those categories might be created over a long period of time and will reflect what you are really interested in. It is as simple as that.
