Let me say a few words about the Blog Catalog widget. Even if for some reasons you do not want to share with other bloggers how you look like, you can still upload a picture of, for example, an anime style cartoonish character. I saw many people use as their icon a picture of celebrities, which I am almost sure did not represent the actual look of a person who uploaded the image. I heard that someone who put an icon of a Latin actress as his icon started having more visitors to his blog. People can do whatever they want; however, I do not recommend putting someone else’s picture as your own. What if you become a very famous blogger and it will be revealed that you do not really look like how everyone else though?

Of course, there are many other widgets you can embedd on your blog. Just make sure that your blog loads within a reasonable time frame, because havign too many widgets can slow down your site. Another disadvantage of having too many widgets is that your sidebar can look quite messy. The most popular blogs usually have only a few widgets. This allows them to have space for other important elements on their sidebar.
